Kiru Taye & her story 'Black Soul' @KiruTaye @LoveBitesSilk #fairytale #shortstory

***OUT NOW***
Title: Black Soul
Series: Black Warriors, Prequel
A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
He will damn his soul to set hers free.
* When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well-deserved break and meets up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for her.
* M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. He's lived more than a millennium waiting for Tara and is unable to do more than just watch her.
* As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing he shouldn’t, releasing her powers.
* In a flash of motion, he growled and stood before her, pulling her close till her body lay flush against his hard contour. On contact, the temperature of the air around them rose. His lips descended on hers for the second time that night.
* This time, the sensations were not a blur. She felt him in every pore of her body, soaking in his aura, her body and mind overwhelmed by exciting sensations. The familiarity and recognition returned, along with the desire to have him inside her, filling her up. Memories of the two of them together flooded her mind.
* Connected, she sensed more than his memories. His emotions wrapped around her mind like a swirling thread, connecting light, desire, and elation. Yet, in the depth of his mind, darkness, rage, and remorse lurked.
* Her arousal increased. She clung to his muscular arms, her hardened nipples rubbing against his chest. Despite the clothes between them, it felt as if skin stroked skin. Her core pulsed. His hand cupped her behind, pulling her in to feel his rigidity between her thighs.
* Feverish sensation coursed through her body, swamping every pore. She writhed in his arms, her body undulating uncontrollably. He broke the kiss, focused attention on her neck and sucked her skin.
* "Oh!" Colors exploded around her, the orgasm ripped out of her body violently, blowing her mind.
* He pulled away, leaving her panting as the energy arc surrounding them subsided.
* "You…you've got to stop doing that," she said as soon as she could catch her breath, wondering how she could respond so instantly and explosively to this man she didn't know.
* "It's the only way I can get you to see the truth about us. What we've always been. What we can become again."
* Kiru Taye is the award-winning and best-selling author of His Treasure. As a young adult, she read a lot of books. Mostly, she loved the romantic stories for the fantasy of being swept away by dashing heroes to exotic locations. Though her reading tastes have matured since then, she still loves reading romance novels.
* Having always dreamt of writing novels, she finally 'bit the bullet' in 2010 and wrote her first contemporary romance novel which she submitted the first chapter as an entry to New Voices writing contest in September 2010. It was shortlisted for ‘call-back’. She writes historical, contemporary and paranormal romance. Her stories are sensual and steamy, her characters passionate and sassy and her settings, atmospheric and exotic. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, hanging out with family or traveling. Born in Nigerian, she currently lives in the UK with her husband and two children.

A Look At Graeme Ing & 'Necromancer' @GraemeIng @GoddessFish #horror

Those who know me, know I am a very eclectic reader, and I like to highlight a variety of authors on my blog.Today I'm happy to welcome, Graeme Ing, author of Necromancer, a dark fantasy, horror story.

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Graeme Ing engineers original fantasy worlds, both YA and adult, but hang around, and you’ll likely read tales of romance, sci-fi, paranormal, cyberpunk, steampunk or any blend of the above.
* Born in England in 1965, Graeme moved to San Diego, California in 1996 and lives there still. His career as a software engineer and development manager spans 30 years, mostly in the computer games industry. He is also an armchair mountaineer, astronomer, mapmaker, pilot and general geek. He and his wife, Tamara, share their house with more cats than he can count.

What was your inspiration for writing Necromancer?
* I started writing stories even before I became a teenager. I devoured every fantasy and sci-fi book I could find, and not surprisingly my stories were very derivative, and not at all original. Once I started college, studying, career and life got in the way of my writing and I largely put it aside. I wish I hadn’t - I’d always dreamed of becoming an author.
* In my mid-forties, I started dabbling with a story that became my first book, Ocean of Dust, and my passion for storytelling returned in force. It took me 6 years of hard work to write that novel, but then I was hooked! I had a hundred story ideas swimming in my head.
* Necromancer was a book that begged me to write it. I’d always been fascinated by the necromancer character, except that I wanted to flip the usual trope on its head. I’d read so many books about ancient, malevolent wizards poring over forbidden tomes in the dark of night, and chanting lengthy spells to summon evil creatures to help them take over the world. No, I wanted a young hero. I wanted a necromancer that was trying to protect humanity from the monsters that crawl out of the dark.
* Maldren’s voice came to me so easily - a cocky, sarcastic youth who needed a lesson in humility. His dry wit demanded that I write the book 1st person, so that I could capture his deep thoughts on the page, and I think that worked well. Most readers tell me they enjoy the voice of my main character the most.
* I noodled over many plot ideas. I wanted a tale of betrayal; I wanted a secret society; a frightening, seemingly unstoppable creature; and I wanted Maldren’s apprentice to be a feisty girl - that’s Ayla. Yes, I love tension! She’s also more than she appears. That goes for many of my characters actually. It was important to me that the setting oozed with a sinister and foreboding mood, so I created Malkandrah, a city full of narrow alleys and “Dickensian London” tenement buildings.
* The inspiration for Caradan, the insanely powerful and murderous wraith that is central to the plot, came from watching countless Dracula movies, and reading Lovecraft. I wanted a brooding menace that seemed to reach through time itself. But not a vampire. No vampires were staked in the making of this book. :)
* Phyxia, the elfin seer, was a character that came to me late in the process, when I was considering a mentor for my young necromancer hero. She’s aloof and mysterious with frustratingly enigmatic advice, and I love that! I had such fun writing her character.
* So you can see that out of that tiny germ of an idea to write about a necromancer, I layered on material inspired from all sorts of places.
* What of the future? There will be more books about Maldren and Ayla. Not immediately, but I will definitely return to them. I have some neat ideas. I’m also planning another story set in Malkandrah about a swordswoman, and I think it’d be fun if Maldren, Ayla and Phyxia make cameo appearances, don’t you?
* Thanks for hosting me and my book on your blog. :)

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* A primeval fiend is loose in the ancient metropolis of Malkandrah, intent on burning it to a wasteland. The city's leaders stand idly by and the sorcerers that once protected the people are long gone.
* Maldren, a young necromancer, is the only person brave enough to stand against the creature. Instead of help from the Masters of his Guild, he is given a new apprentice. Why now, and why a girl? As they unravel the clues to defeating the fiend, they discover a secret society holding the future of the city in its grip. After betrayals and attempts on his life, Maldren has reason to suspect everyone he thought a friend, even the girl.
* His last hope lies in an alliance with a depraved and murderous ghost, but how can he trust it? Its sinister past is intertwined in the lives of everyone he holds dear.
* Can only evil defeat evil?
~ Excerpt ~
Underworld creature
* “This is dangerous,” I whispered. “I know what I’m doing.”
* Did I? I handed her the lightstick and crept forward, nudging loose stones with my boot to clear the way, never taking my eyes from the archway. The room was filled with heaps of rubble. The spectral rope snaked behind a huge fragment of a fallen buttress lodged against one wall.
* Come out, come out, wherever you are.
* I drew a sizable ball of magic from my core and blasted a massive Dispel into the room, bathing the entire area in a purple flash.
* The grak leaped onto the ceiling, sending rubble clattering in all directions. It scuttled toward me, upside down, hundreds of barbs along its ten legs clinging to the bare stone ceiling. A razor-ridged carapace protected an abdomen the size of a barrel, yet the thing stretched eight feet in length, counting its forked, bony tail and oversize head. Two spheres of flylike eyes reflected a distorted version of my look of horror. Saw-toothed pincers clacked repeatedly and its antennae quivered, probing the air in front of it.
* I stumbled backward, my heart thumping in my ears.
* Kristach. I’d hoped it’d be smaller.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My Black Warriors series prequel Black Soul. It's an urban fantasy, paranormal romance. I'm revealing the cover today, which was created by: Love Bites and Silk

Here's the cover and a look into the story:
~ Blurb ~
He will damn his soul to set hers free.
When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well deserved break and meets up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for her. M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. Tara is his assignment. As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing that releases her powers – unbinding her heart.
~ Excerpt ~
Prologue
* M'na lounged in the worn foam armchair, thighs apart, legs stretched out, right hand clutching a short tumbler of whisky. Lord of the Ring posters covered up blue paint peeling off the brick walls.
* Ironic really, the first time he was going to have sex in a millennium and he'd chosen a demon with a love for fantasy movies, who lived in a part of the city that could've been Mordor.
* Desperation flowed in his veins, making him feverish. Sweat dripped down his face. His t-shirt clung to his back, a second skin. He tightened his grip on the glass to stop his hand from shaking and lifted it to his lips.
* The strong liquor burned his throat as he tossed the whole shot down. Thumped the glass back onto the small table and refilled it from the bottle.
* One of the advantages, or disadvantages depending on how one chose to look at it, of being a super, alcohol had no effect in normal quantities.
* But he liked the sting of whisky at the back of his throat and in his chest. It made him feel alive. Something he hadn't felt in a very long time.
* Shame it couldn't numb the pain searing his soul, his constant companion.

hocus-pocus stuff ~ a Mid Week Tease #urbanfantasy #MWTease

Welcome to the middle of the week!
Mid Week Tease is an event, sponsored by the wonderful Ms. Sandra Bunino, where authors are spotlighting a few lines or a paragraph or two from their stories. Readers, you get to sample some delicious snippets and be teased, titillated and tantalized into the weekend!

My contribution to MWT this week is from one of the books in my erotic urban fantasy series, C.O.V.E.N.. It's called Open World. This book follows the world I created in AFK, my story in the Evernight Publishing anthology, Keyboards & Kink. Enjoy!

* It surprised him how those he knew became their characters so easily and acted as if the game world was the real world. Their mission for the LAN party was to test out the game in role playing mode. How the whole thing turned into an open world where players could roam freely through the virtual world and were given so much freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives was beyond him. But then again… It also seemed like someone had tweaked the game to play in sandbox mode. A player with enough know-how to give themselves tools to modify the world themselves and direct how the game is played.
* But who?
* “James? Who in here has the knowledge to change the game’s code from here?”
* “The few who do wouldn’t jeopardize their jobs by messing with it now. Why?”
* “Aside from the hocus-pocus stuff with us literally getting sucked into the game, don’t you find it strange how real everything was? How easy it was to manipulate and be manipulated in there? As for why, I was hoping you might have a guess.”
* “Now that you mention it, yes, I noticed the play.” James shook his head. “But I have no clue why. And the people who I’d call to ask are in this room and locked into the C.O.V.E.N. world.”

Look for buy links to this C.O.V.E.N. story here: Casey Moss Website.

It's a whole other world ~ @evernightpub #urbanfantasy

* Today I'm here to share my story Open World which is now available at Evernight Publishing. The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: Evernight Publishing & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK. In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real. Now, in Open World, the employees have joined together for a LAN party to test the game.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* Like I mentioned above, the world of C.O.V.E.N. was introduced in an anthology. The call for that anth was about on-line relationships and since I'd been into MMORPGs I went that route when creating the story - what if gamers got sucked into a game and hooked up? Open World consists of two novellas that had been previously published, and they'd been repurposed to fit this theme. I'm so excited they found new life and a new home with Evernight Publishing!

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* There are multiple characters in the story. The bad guy Cor, the parents, the two couples Den & Hope and Faith & Tavis. There's also the cousin, Cassandra. Beth from the first story along with Rick make an appearance, along with some other new characters one of which is JT. JT will be one of the main characters in the next book. Love my JT. But when it comes to Open World, my favorite character is Cassandra. She, too, will be a featured character in the book that comes after JT's story.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* There are a lot of great lines in the book & I have several favorites. Here's one of them:
* “Hey, if you want to be bit by the CWU that’s coming up on you, feel free to continue standing there with your thumb up your ass.”

A look into the story

* Her quiet statements almost rattled him. “Not again what?” he inquired with an edge of caution.
* She tried to move a couple strands of hair that had escaped her ponytail to behind her ear. “Might be something. Might be nothing. Don’t mind me. With all the computers, crystals, wires and such around me I get antsy when it comes to power surges and storms.” Beth glanced at the doorway, the monitor, the entrance again. She rubbed the back of her neck and repeated the actions of her darting gaze.
* “Seems like you’re more than just being antsy about a rain storm or Nevada Energy doing a rolling black out. What’s troubling you?”
* Beth drew in a long breath and then let it out in puff. “Well, it’s a bit of a story, but another player and I had some very unusual issues during a smaller test run when there was a storm going on. Very unsettling stuff.”
* Could Beth have been one of the testers online when I’d been on, too, during that storm? Den couldn’t recall anything out of the ordinary happening. Just the normal quirks a game in development had. But then again… Could what happened that night be part of what happened to me today? What I need to figure out? “Who knows about those issues you had?”
* “No one does.” She shifted her stance, looked toward the door again. “Except for a couple of programmers who needed to know. I just made sure to make it like there were lots of bugs that had to be fixed. Hopefully they have been. Maybe I’ll tell you about it all after the party gets started.”
* “That’d be great.” Every piece of information counted if he were to make headway with his issue.

Now for some fun stuff. Summer reads. I'm going to go old school first on my suggestions for summer reads and share the author and two of her books which made me really fall in love with the romance genre.
Back in the mid-90's, a friend of mine lent me a copy of Jude Deveraux's A Knight in Shining Armor. I loved that story and have read it a few times. The blurb for it is: Abandoned by her lover, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery finds herself alone and brokenhearted in an old English church. She never dreamed that a love more powerful than time awaited her there…until Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck, a sixteenth-century knight, appeared. Drawn to him by a bond so sudden and compelling that it defied reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect just as she was. But she could not know how strong were the chains that tied them to the past — or the grand adventure that lay before them.
Remembrance is the other book of Jude's that I love. This story really resonnated with me. After all it follows the life of an author and what happens to her. ;) The blurb for Remembrance is: Bestselling romance writer Hayden Lane just lost the “perfect” man. But what real man could compete with the dark intriguing character she writes about? When a psychic tells her that Hayden has had a past life, she yearns to know more. Despite the psychic’s warnings, Hayden gets hypnotized and comes to in Edwardian England where she immediately faints. Upon awakening, Hayden embarks on an adventure beyond her wildest dreams. She gets a chance at love so rapturous that it defies the boundaries of time…
So back to the present. My reading tastes have varied over the years since I've read those stories as has my writing. If you've been following my blog, you've noticed that I have a
book soon to be released from Evernight Publishing. It's called Open World ~ C.O.V.E.N.. Isn't that a gorgeous cover?! (You can click on it to go to my website.) -->
I'm sure you'll want to pick up a copy as one of your summer reads once it's available. ;) Here's the blurb:

From 'Open World' ~ a Mid Week Tease #urbanfantasy #MWTease

* The rich, deep timbre of his voice reverberated through her core, reminding her of the passion she’d shared with her new dream man. She took a deep, steadying breath. “It’s like a fog edging your body. Not a thick fog because I can still make out some detail behind you, but enough of a haze to be defining. It’s a gorgeous turquoise. It ebbs and flows with your breaths.”
* “Well, my dear, you’re glowing, too. Your hue is a beautiful amber, like that of your energy globes.” He took her hand in his.
* “This is too weird,” she commented as the colors swirled and blended together. “It’s like what happened in my dream. Maybe I need some more sleep.”
* “No, Faith, you don’t need more sleep. You need to find your eyes, look with your soul, then you’ll see the truth and the path which is already before you.” He stepped in toward her and pushed a lock of hair behind her ear. “Your salvation from Mabuz’s world and the ties that bind you there lie in choosing the right course of action, deciding between good and evil.”

From 'C.O.V.E.N.: Genesis' ~ a Mid Week Tease #urbanfantasy #MWTease

Welcome to the middle of the week!
Mid Week Tease is an event, sponsored by the wonderful Ms. Sandra Bunino, where authors are spotlighting a few lines or a paragraph or two from their stories. Readers, you get to sample some delicious snippets and be teased, titillated and tantalized into the weekend!

My contribution to MWT this week is from one of the next books I'm working on in my erotic urban fantasy series, C.O.V.E.N.. It's called C.O.V.E.N.: Genesis. This book is the prelude to the world I created in AFK , my story in the Evernight Publishing anthology, Keyboards & Kink and the with the LAN party in books 1 & 2 Open World & Open World--Continuum. It shows how the MMORPG came to be. Enjoy!

* If looks could kill.
* And just like the woman in her dream upon seeing the crazed hatred in Pearl’s heated gaze, Calissa finally understood beyond a doubt what people meant by that phrase.
* She gazed at the clock and sighed. If she dreamt of anyone, why did she have to see those two women the most when Jonah was part of the cast, too? This particular recurring dream always started with him—beautiful Jonah with eyes the color of a storm-tossed ocean. It was a great beginning, too. He had taken her hand, captured her heart, made her feel rare and treasured. On a secluded patio of a penthouse room overlooking the bright and colorful Las Vegas strip, they had claimed each other, loved each other, stolen each other’s souls. But to her sorrow, like all good dreams that seem to be cut short too soon, he was never in the picture long.

* Truth be told, her mother did do her best to help and Doctor Wilcox was a great psychologist, but the two of them were too mystical for her scientific brain.
* She suffered from the effects of the dreams, losing sleep nights at a time and dealing with headaches. Those side effects terrified her. Calissa also didn’t want to hear that the dreams were spiritual messages from God, predictions of the future or communications from the past. Her father would have said her recurring dreams and subsequent mental state were all physiological responses to external stresses. She’d have been more apt to agree with him than anyone. No matter what though, they sapped any hope she had of a normal life.
* “Oh, Dad, why did you have to leave,” Calissa whispered, the painful wound of what she called his ‘desertion’ reopening, the hurt still raw. “First mom. Now the business. You could have sent Alec to deal with the financial stuff.”

* As for remembering, she hoped her mom wouldn’t recall her plans to get all the employees together. Who did her Mom think she was anyway? The CEO?
* As if. She snorted. Her dad had left Alec Sterling in charge of I-D-8 Entertainment Corporation, her and her father’s new company that developed, published and distributed interactive educational software while he traveled the country to meet with financial backers. Their goal was to expand from the small scholastic market into the world-wide gaming market.
* Her hand twitched. The crumpled note pinched the soft flesh of her palm. No use fretting over the situation. If she didn’t bring up the subject, maybe her mom wouldn’t either and the meeting idea would be dropped. She had bigger issues to deal with, like how one of her nightmares once again woke her in the early dawn. For weeks now the dreadful, twisted dreams paraded on her mind’s screen in the wee hours of the morning. Upon their debuts, the visions, as they came to be called by shrink Karen, surfaced only once or twice a month. Now, they occurred nightly.
* She closed her eyes. A picture of a star-filled night sky formed on the backs of her eyelids. Images from the pre-dawn nightmare immediately followed.

* Something was different.
* He felt like he’d been walking forever through the arid landscape. Ultra-fine, sandy particles covered his black duster coat. Dried on dirt layered his black military boots, and he was glad he couldn’t see them in the dark. He hated filthy boots.
* Regardless of the muck of travel clinging to him, he continued on, and with each step, the phrase repeated.
* Something was different.
* Though they’d all found themselves on a role playing board where they all had control of situations, there was still a base theme the improvisation worked around. It almost felt like that theme had been tampered with.

* Now the last Collins woman remaining to be tapped was that smart mouth bitch, Cassandra, most definitely the strongest, but the least desirable. She was too intelligent, and he was pretty damn sure she had already enlightened, which would make his task of converting her to his ways all the more tough. The one plus was—she didn’t have a protective boyfriend sitting in her corner.
* A thunderous boom, seeming to be right on top of the building, jerked his attention from the screen. The crystals began to glow and pulse again. Around him the atmosphere heightened with a hair raising electrical charge. Laser beams shot out of the pyramids and created connecting lines between them.
* “The incorporation is starting again. Perfect.” Cor clapped his hands and rubbed them together fervently. “I will succeed in claiming what I want and ruling the universe,” he chanted believing in each and every word he’d said.
* Cassandra would submit to him, willingly or not.

A Look At Gregory Bellarmine & 'The Blood That Cries in the Ground' ~ @VRevGB @GoddessFish #scifi #fantasy

Today we have author Gregory Bellarmine visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Gregory Bellarmine is the author of the bestselling Monthly Roman Breviary. He lives a happy though sometimes sleepless life in the UK with his wife, two children and rather cheeky Parson Russell Terrier.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My story The Blood That Cries in the Ground.

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~
* Italy. A tough master of novices, Father Dante encounters the bold young priest Antonio who challenges his identity and accuses him of being the Saint Nicholas. But despite the Father faking his death, a determined Antonio discovers a rather alive Dante arrayed in kilt and armor.
* In return for Antonio’s silence—and to protect the town from attracting all manner of darkness—Dante agrees to tell his life story. Without explanation, Dante orders Antonio to meet him at night in the abandoned Cathedral, the site of a former battle that the Church has kept secret for a generation.
* Until today.
* The Criskindl. Ice Steeds. The Unborn. Saint.
* From the Dark Ages’ when Poet-Sorcerers ruled kings, to the Holy Land when a new civilization was rising, to Revolutionary France where love is lost and gained, Father Dante pursues the one responsible for both his master and his mother’s deaths: Black Peter, his brother.
~ Excerpt ~
* I stood up and snarled. "All this for a romp?"
* Catherine walloped a blurring slap across my face. Though lights danced in my periphery, I fiddled with my jaw to click it back into place.
* "My flesh is pure, Nicholas. Is yours?"
* She spun on her heel and wheeled towards the night-dark palace. Wrath trailed her like her billowing fur, an anger punctuated by images that flashed into my mind. One vision showed Catherine as a girl: enraptured, she listened to stories of a man of powerful purpose; another had her beat an armored opponent twice her age in straight-sword combat, but her thoughts always wandered to a future where some day she would find me.
* A wind billowed my vestment. "Befana gave me a wife? Why?"
* Once the darkness had consumed my Catherine, a dread poisoned my heart. I ran after her, and the second I took my first stride, I partially understood why Befana had sent her. I was alone.
* "Catherine!"
* A giddiness filled me, only for a terrible fear to steal into my soul. What had I done?
* "Catherine please?"
* I headed for the balcony and midway up the stone steps, she paused in a half turn, her lips parted just so. I took a deep savoring breath.
