Today we have author K R Yaddof visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?

* KR is currently finds time to write while staying home with her two small children. If you want more MAGES, cross your fingers for her children to start sleeping through the night!

A look into...

~ Blurb ~
* Lauren Trinidad is the best private security money in the League of European Nations can buy. She's been trained by her father for her entire life to protect the good guys from the bad. But when the good guys seem to be working for the mad man responsible for blowing the world into chaos and her family is suddenly the bad, she is forced to choose between what she is taught to do and what she thinks is right.
* Captain David Trinidad is the best soldier the New Republic of Texas can find to pull off a secret mission that will decide the fate of the small country. He’s been raised in his military family to do anything to help his homeland. But when he discovers he is the only chance at saving someone he loves, he has to choose between the only two things in his life that he's never doubted.
* Meagan Trinidad is the best assassin the United Countries of America has for hire. She has walked the tightrope between making her father proud and protecting those she cares about for a while. But when her work threatens to destroy her friends, she must choose between the familial loyalty that has guided her whole life and the promise of being loved for who she is and not what she does.
~ Excerpt ~
* “I told you I was working.” Lauren tried not to snap. Zachary obviously wanted to forget their earlier fight about whether or not it was too dangerous for her to protect the new prime minister. But Zachary didn’t give up that easily. “I was doing my job.”
* “I thought you only had to stay through the prime minister’s speech.”
* “We both know you’re not going to college.” Jacob moved his mouth closer to her ear. “Why are you going to New Haven? To kill my sister?”
* “What?” Meagan jerked back to see his face, but he held her too tightly.
* “I know what you are, darling.” His voice was so quiet she barely could hear him. “An assassin.”
* “That’s not true!” She swallowed, her head spinning. How had he figured it out? Her father was going to be pissed. “I would never hurt Kayla.”
* “That may be true, but you have been hunting my brother for years.” Jacob’s hands crept up her body. They stopped on either side of her throat. He pressed harder against her. “Why do you think I’ve been keeping you so close?”
* Meagan didn’t say anything. Sliding a hand behind her back, she glared at him. She went for the knife hidden in her waistband.
* “I don’t think so, darling.” He grabbed her wrist and twisted it along with the other one above her head, pinning them against the door. She refused to cry out in pain. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. “I kept you so close I know all of your little tricks. Didn’t you wonder why I cared? You should know by now that I don’t fuck the same girl more than once. I was keeping an eye on you instead of ending you.”
* She brought up her knee in a swift movement and hit him in the crotch. He grunted and doubled over in pain. She punched him in the face and pushed him off her. Spinning, she kicked him in the head and knocked him to the floor. She drove her boot into his stomach for good measure.
* “Don’t ever threaten me, Jacob Godard,” she whispered in his ear, kneeling over him. “Next time I’ll slit your arrogant throat.”

Kiru Taye & her story 'Black Soul' @KiruTaye @LoveBitesSilk #fairytale #shortstory

***OUT NOW***
Title: Black Soul
Series: Black Warriors, Prequel
A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
He will damn his soul to set hers free.
* When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well-deserved break and meets up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for her.
* M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. He's lived more than a millennium waiting for Tara and is unable to do more than just watch her.
* As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing he shouldn’t, releasing her powers.
* In a flash of motion, he growled and stood before her, pulling her close till her body lay flush against his hard contour. On contact, the temperature of the air around them rose. His lips descended on hers for the second time that night.
* This time, the sensations were not a blur. She felt him in every pore of her body, soaking in his aura, her body and mind overwhelmed by exciting sensations. The familiarity and recognition returned, along with the desire to have him inside her, filling her up. Memories of the two of them together flooded her mind.
* Connected, she sensed more than his memories. His emotions wrapped around her mind like a swirling thread, connecting light, desire, and elation. Yet, in the depth of his mind, darkness, rage, and remorse lurked.
* Her arousal increased. She clung to his muscular arms, her hardened nipples rubbing against his chest. Despite the clothes between them, it felt as if skin stroked skin. Her core pulsed. His hand cupped her behind, pulling her in to feel his rigidity between her thighs.
* Feverish sensation coursed through her body, swamping every pore. She writhed in his arms, her body undulating uncontrollably. He broke the kiss, focused attention on her neck and sucked her skin.
* "Oh!" Colors exploded around her, the orgasm ripped out of her body violently, blowing her mind.
* He pulled away, leaving her panting as the energy arc surrounding them subsided.
* "You…you've got to stop doing that," she said as soon as she could catch her breath, wondering how she could respond so instantly and explosively to this man she didn't know.
* "It's the only way I can get you to see the truth about us. What we've always been. What we can become again."
* Kiru Taye is the award-winning and best-selling author of His Treasure. As a young adult, she read a lot of books. Mostly, she loved the romantic stories for the fantasy of being swept away by dashing heroes to exotic locations. Though her reading tastes have matured since then, she still loves reading romance novels.
* Having always dreamt of writing novels, she finally 'bit the bullet' in 2010 and wrote her first contemporary romance novel which she submitted the first chapter as an entry to New Voices writing contest in September 2010. It was shortlisted for ‘call-back’. She writes historical, contemporary and paranormal romance. Her stories are sensual and steamy, her characters passionate and sassy and her settings, atmospheric and exotic. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, hanging out with family or traveling. Born in Nigerian, she currently lives in the UK with her husband and two children.

A Look At Graeme Ing & 'Necromancer' @GraemeIng @GoddessFish #horror

Those who know me, know I am a very eclectic reader, and I like to highlight a variety of authors on my blog.Today I'm happy to welcome, Graeme Ing, author of Necromancer, a dark fantasy, horror story.

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Graeme Ing engineers original fantasy worlds, both YA and adult, but hang around, and you’ll likely read tales of romance, sci-fi, paranormal, cyberpunk, steampunk or any blend of the above.
* Born in England in 1965, Graeme moved to San Diego, California in 1996 and lives there still. His career as a software engineer and development manager spans 30 years, mostly in the computer games industry. He is also an armchair mountaineer, astronomer, mapmaker, pilot and general geek. He and his wife, Tamara, share their house with more cats than he can count.

What was your inspiration for writing Necromancer?
* I started writing stories even before I became a teenager. I devoured every fantasy and sci-fi book I could find, and not surprisingly my stories were very derivative, and not at all original. Once I started college, studying, career and life got in the way of my writing and I largely put it aside. I wish I hadn’t - I’d always dreamed of becoming an author.
* In my mid-forties, I started dabbling with a story that became my first book, Ocean of Dust, and my passion for storytelling returned in force. It took me 6 years of hard work to write that novel, but then I was hooked! I had a hundred story ideas swimming in my head.
* Necromancer was a book that begged me to write it. I’d always been fascinated by the necromancer character, except that I wanted to flip the usual trope on its head. I’d read so many books about ancient, malevolent wizards poring over forbidden tomes in the dark of night, and chanting lengthy spells to summon evil creatures to help them take over the world. No, I wanted a young hero. I wanted a necromancer that was trying to protect humanity from the monsters that crawl out of the dark.
* Maldren’s voice came to me so easily - a cocky, sarcastic youth who needed a lesson in humility. His dry wit demanded that I write the book 1st person, so that I could capture his deep thoughts on the page, and I think that worked well. Most readers tell me they enjoy the voice of my main character the most.
* I noodled over many plot ideas. I wanted a tale of betrayal; I wanted a secret society; a frightening, seemingly unstoppable creature; and I wanted Maldren’s apprentice to be a feisty girl - that’s Ayla. Yes, I love tension! She’s also more than she appears. That goes for many of my characters actually. It was important to me that the setting oozed with a sinister and foreboding mood, so I created Malkandrah, a city full of narrow alleys and “Dickensian London” tenement buildings.
* The inspiration for Caradan, the insanely powerful and murderous wraith that is central to the plot, came from watching countless Dracula movies, and reading Lovecraft. I wanted a brooding menace that seemed to reach through time itself. But not a vampire. No vampires were staked in the making of this book. :)
* Phyxia, the elfin seer, was a character that came to me late in the process, when I was considering a mentor for my young necromancer hero. She’s aloof and mysterious with frustratingly enigmatic advice, and I love that! I had such fun writing her character.
* So you can see that out of that tiny germ of an idea to write about a necromancer, I layered on material inspired from all sorts of places.
* What of the future? There will be more books about Maldren and Ayla. Not immediately, but I will definitely return to them. I have some neat ideas. I’m also planning another story set in Malkandrah about a swordswoman, and I think it’d be fun if Maldren, Ayla and Phyxia make cameo appearances, don’t you?
* Thanks for hosting me and my book on your blog. :)

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* A primeval fiend is loose in the ancient metropolis of Malkandrah, intent on burning it to a wasteland. The city's leaders stand idly by and the sorcerers that once protected the people are long gone.
* Maldren, a young necromancer, is the only person brave enough to stand against the creature. Instead of help from the Masters of his Guild, he is given a new apprentice. Why now, and why a girl? As they unravel the clues to defeating the fiend, they discover a secret society holding the future of the city in its grip. After betrayals and attempts on his life, Maldren has reason to suspect everyone he thought a friend, even the girl.
* His last hope lies in an alliance with a depraved and murderous ghost, but how can he trust it? Its sinister past is intertwined in the lives of everyone he holds dear.
* Can only evil defeat evil?
~ Excerpt ~
Underworld creature
* “This is dangerous,” I whispered. “I know what I’m doing.”
* Did I? I handed her the lightstick and crept forward, nudging loose stones with my boot to clear the way, never taking my eyes from the archway. The room was filled with heaps of rubble. The spectral rope snaked behind a huge fragment of a fallen buttress lodged against one wall.
* Come out, come out, wherever you are.
* I drew a sizable ball of magic from my core and blasted a massive Dispel into the room, bathing the entire area in a purple flash.
* The grak leaped onto the ceiling, sending rubble clattering in all directions. It scuttled toward me, upside down, hundreds of barbs along its ten legs clinging to the bare stone ceiling. A razor-ridged carapace protected an abdomen the size of a barrel, yet the thing stretched eight feet in length, counting its forked, bony tail and oversize head. Two spheres of flylike eyes reflected a distorted version of my look of horror. Saw-toothed pincers clacked repeatedly and its antennae quivered, probing the air in front of it.
* I stumbled backward, my heart thumping in my ears.
* Kristach. I’d hoped it’d be smaller.

It's a whole other world ~ @evernightpub #urbanfantasy

* Today I'm here to share my story Open World which is now available at Evernight Publishing. The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: Evernight Publishing & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK. In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real. Now, in Open World, the employees have joined together for a LAN party to test the game.

How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* Like I mentioned above, the world of C.O.V.E.N. was introduced in an anthology. The call for that anth was about on-line relationships and since I'd been into MMORPGs I went that route when creating the story - what if gamers got sucked into a game and hooked up? Open World consists of two novellas that had been previously published, and they'd been repurposed to fit this theme. I'm so excited they found new life and a new home with Evernight Publishing!

Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* There are multiple characters in the story. The bad guy Cor, the parents, the two couples Den & Hope and Faith & Tavis. There's also the cousin, Cassandra. Beth from the first story along with Rick make an appearance, along with some other new characters one of which is JT. JT will be one of the main characters in the next book. Love my JT. But when it comes to Open World, my favorite character is Cassandra. She, too, will be a featured character in the book that comes after JT's story.

What's your favorite line in the story?
* There are a lot of great lines in the book & I have several favorites. Here's one of them:
* “Hey, if you want to be bit by the CWU that’s coming up on you, feel free to continue standing there with your thumb up your ass.”

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* The world has broken out in wars. Las Vegas has been ravaged by chemical warfare and is now home to several clans and creatures.
* Welcome to I-D-8 Entertainment’s newest game: Clans of Vegas—Endless Night.
* Friends and family have gathered for a crunch time playtest of C.O.V.E.N.. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, everyone’s sucked into the game for real. In the MMORPG, Hope Collins is kidnapped by Buzz and forced to submit to his whims. Her boyfriend, Alden, has to delay his quest of defeating a clan’s prince to save her, but time and circumstance don’t seem to be on his side. Faith Collins is bombarded by strange dreams brought on by Buzz. Her boyfriend, Tavis, learns to dream walk, but can he help break the spell she’s under and save her before she’s lost to him?
* C.O.V.E.N. is more than just a game. It’s a whole other world.
~ Excerpt ~
* Her quiet statements almost rattled him. “Not again what?” he inquired with an edge of caution.
* She tried to move a couple strands of hair that had escaped her ponytail to behind her ear. “Might be something. Might be nothing. Don’t mind me. With all the computers, crystals, wires and such around me I get antsy when it comes to power surges and storms.” Beth glanced at the doorway, the monitor, the entrance again. She rubbed the back of her neck and repeated the actions of her darting gaze.
* “Seems like you’re more than just being antsy about a rain storm or Nevada Energy doing a rolling black out. What’s troubling you?”
* Beth drew in a long breath and then let it out in puff. “Well, it’s a bit of a story, but another player and I had some very unusual issues during a smaller test run when there was a storm going on. Very unsettling stuff.”
* Could Beth have been one of the testers online when I’d been on, too, during that storm? Den couldn’t recall anything out of the ordinary happening. Just the normal quirks a game in development had. But then again… Could what happened that night be part of what happened to me today? What I need to figure out? “Who knows about those issues you had?”
* “No one does.” She shifted her stance, looked toward the door again. “Except for a couple of programmers who needed to know. I just made sure to make it like there were lots of bugs that had to be fixed. Hopefully they have been. Maybe I’ll tell you about it all after the party gets started.”
* “That’d be great.” Every piece of information counted if he were to make headway with his issue.

A Look At Gregory Bellarmine & 'The Blood That Cries in the Ground' ~ @VRevGB @GoddessFish #scifi #fantasy

Today we have author Gregory Bellarmine visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Gregory Bellarmine is the author of the bestselling Monthly Roman Breviary. He lives a happy though sometimes sleepless life in the UK with his wife, two children and rather cheeky Parson Russell Terrier.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My story The Blood That Cries in the Ground.

A look into the story

~ Blurb ~
* Italy. A tough master of novices, Father Dante encounters the bold young priest Antonio who challenges his identity and accuses him of being the Saint Nicholas. But despite the Father faking his death, a determined Antonio discovers a rather alive Dante arrayed in kilt and armor.
* In return for Antonio’s silence—and to protect the town from attracting all manner of darkness—Dante agrees to tell his life story. Without explanation, Dante orders Antonio to meet him at night in the abandoned Cathedral, the site of a former battle that the Church has kept secret for a generation.
* Until today.
* The Criskindl. Ice Steeds. The Unborn. Saint.
* From the Dark Ages’ when Poet-Sorcerers ruled kings, to the Holy Land when a new civilization was rising, to Revolutionary France where love is lost and gained, Father Dante pursues the one responsible for both his master and his mother’s deaths: Black Peter, his brother.
~ Excerpt ~
* I stood up and snarled. "All this for a romp?"
* Catherine walloped a blurring slap across my face. Though lights danced in my periphery, I fiddled with my jaw to click it back into place.
* "My flesh is pure, Nicholas. Is yours?"
* She spun on her heel and wheeled towards the night-dark palace. Wrath trailed her like her billowing fur, an anger punctuated by images that flashed into my mind. One vision showed Catherine as a girl: enraptured, she listened to stories of a man of powerful purpose; another had her beat an armored opponent twice her age in straight-sword combat, but her thoughts always wandered to a future where some day she would find me.
* A wind billowed my vestment. "Befana gave me a wife? Why?"
* Once the darkness had consumed my Catherine, a dread poisoned my heart. I ran after her, and the second I took my first stride, I partially understood why Befana had sent her. I was alone.
* "Catherine!"
* A giddiness filled me, only for a terrible fear to steal into my soul. What had I done?
* "Catherine please?"
* I headed for the balcony and midway up the stone steps, she paused in a half turn, her lips parted just so. I took a deep savoring breath.

A Look At K.F. Breene & 'Into the Darkness' ~ @KFBreene @GoddessFish #newadult #fantasy #urban #scifi

Today we have author K.F. Breene visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* A wine country native, K.F. Breene moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making and editing films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she often wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.
* While she could wrangle numbers with the best of 'em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, not worried about lighting, shutter speed or editing equipment. Turns out, a computer is much easier to manage than a crowd of actors. She should know, she was an actor at one time.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* My story Into the Darkness.

A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* I’d always been different. I saw objects in the night where others saw emptiness. Large, human shaped shadows, fierce yet beautiful, melting into the darkness. I collected secrets like other women collected bells; afraid to fully trust lest my oddities be exposed.
* Until I saw him. He’d been gliding down the street, unshakable confidence in every step. It wasn’t just that he was breathtakingly handsome with perfect features. Something about him drew me. Sucked my focus to him and then tugged at my body. As his eyes met mine, I was entrapped.
* No one had noticed him. He’d been right there, just beyond the light, but only I had perceived.
* I had to know if he was real. Or maybe I really was crazy. And even when my secret box was blasted wide open, dangers hurled at me like throwing knives, I couldn’t stop until I unraveled his true identity.
* I just had to know.
* “She was fated to live.”
* “Then why must you save her?”
* “Often Fate is struck down by dumb luck.”
~ Excerpt ~
* Stefen approached the wide bed, looking down on the limp human, her angelic face devoid of color. Her arms rested on her chest, her body so still she looked dead.
* A shot of fear pierced Stefen’s chest. “Will she make it?”
* Luke’s head shook before he sighed. “She shouldn’t have made it last time. Yet she did. Something is holding her to this life.”
* “My blood helped last time. Will it help again?”
* Luke sighed, raising his eyebrows in a facial shrug. “If you can get her to drink, she might pull out of it. Might. She should be dead already; she’s largely catatonic. But…well, she survived last time, so who’s to say?”
* Stefen nodded, allowing himself to bestow his gaze back to this woman that had a firm hold on his vitals for reasons he couldn’t understand or explain. The only thing he knew with certainty was that she could not die.

A Look At Helen Harper & 'the Blood Destiny series' ( @HarperFire @GoddessFish #fantasy #shifters )

Today we have author Helen Harper visiting. Welcome!

What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Helen Harper is an English teacher currently living abroad in Malaysia. As a long time reader of urban fantasy, she finally bit the bullet and began to develop her own series of novels.
* Helen has always been a book lover, devouring science fiction and fantasy tales when she was a child growing up in Scotland. "I always loved the escapism provided by those genres," states Helen. "No matter how bad life gets, you can always find a route out, even if only temporarily, in the pages of a good book."
* The growth of urban fantasy fascinated her - the mix of reality and fantasy along with strong heroic female characters appealed from the very beginning, and inspired her to write her own.

What are you going to tell us about today?
* the Blood Destiny series

A look into the stories

~ Blurb for Bloodfire ~

* Mackenzie Smith has always known that she was different. Growing up as the only human in a pack of rural shapeshifters will do that to you, but then couple it with some mean fighting skills and a fiery temper and you end up with a woman that few will dare to cross. However, when the only father figure in her life is brutally murdered, and the dangerous Brethren with their predatory Lord Alpha come to investigate, Mack has to not only ensure the physical safety of her adopted family by hiding her apparent humanity, she also has to seek the blood-soaked vengeance that she craves.
~ Blurb for Bloodmagic ~

* After escaping the claws of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the Brethren, Mack is trying to lead a quiet lonely life in Inverness in rural Scotland, away from anyone who might happen to be a shapeshifter. However, when she lands a job at an old bookstore owned by a mysterious elderly woman who not only has a familiar passion for herbal lore but also seems to know more than she should, Mack ends up caught in a maelstrom between the Ministry of Mages, the Fae and the Brethren.
* Now she has to decide between staying hidden and facing the music, as well as confronting her real feelings for the green eyed power of Corrigan himself.
~ Blurb for Bloodrage ~

* Mack begins her training at the mages' academy in the hope that, by complying, the stasis spell will be lifted from her old friend, Mrs. Alcoon. However, once there, she finds herself surrounded by unfriendly adults and petulant teenagers, the majority of whom seem determined to see her fail.
* Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack finds it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel. But when she comes across a familiar text within the walls of the mages' library, which might just provide the clues she needs to unlock the secrets of her background and her dragon blood, she realises that her problems are only just beginning...
~ Excerpt from Bloodfire ~
* I jogged along a small brook until it curved upstream towards the hills, then hopped over it and headed towards where I knew John would be. I finally found him crouched in a clearing, not far from the edges of the moor.
* “You sound like an elephant running through those trees,” he complained.
* I put my hands on my hips and raised an eyebrow. “Is that the thanks I’m getting for interrupting my run to come and investigate the over-energetic dalliances of some bunny rabbits?”
* “That was one time.” He straightened up. His salt and pepper beard and bald head, along with the laughter lines around his eyes, hinted at the wisdom and experience contained within that smart mind of his. John had been alpha in Cornwall for thirty-two years, and was universally liked and respected by the pack, but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t still have a little fun.
* “So what is it this time? Don’t tell me, I’ve got it, a sheep has gotten lost on the moor and its bleating is terrifying the farmers.”
* He held out his palm. There was a small shiny black object resting in the middle. “I wish that’s what it was,” he said grimly. “Take a look at this.”
* I picked it up from his hand and rolled it through my fingers. It was almost entirely weightless, and very smooth. There was also something else. I held it up to my ear and heard an odd chiming sound.
* John looked at me sharply. “You can hear it?”
* “Sure,” I said surprised.
* “Describe it to me.”
* “You mean you can’t hear it?” I was puzzled. Compared to my own hearing, John could hear a leaf drop from fifty paces away. “It’s like bells. Only not, it’s more continuous than that. Like a never-ending echo of a chime.”
* He pursed his lips, clearly unhappy. “It’s a wichtlein’s stone.”
* “A mine fairy’s? They knock three times and a miner drops dead?”
* “You’ve been reading too many fairy tales. Wichtleins do sometimes hang around old mines and tease the men that work there, but more often than not they are true harbingers of evil. I don’t think one has been seen in the British Isles for more than a century.”
