* Knight, the sheriff of a local magical government known as "the Gambit," is called to recover a mutilated body, tainted with magic and dumped at a popular haunt. When the corpse is identified as a close associate of the Gambit, it threatens the safety of the community he protects, and those he cares about most. As the fragile peace amongst the city's magic-wielding factions disintegrates, Knight must track down a cadre of murderers before his friends are picked off, one by one- with each death used to strengthen the spells cast against the Gambit.

* “Tell me honestly, what do you think we’re going to find?”
* “Statistically, the safe money would go on Castle getting involved with the wrong woman- one of the two reasons people usually kill each other. The other’s ambition, but there’s no percentage in killing Castle; if this is the opening for something larger, I can't even imagine what the game is.”
* “So the all-points response is…”
* “Precaution. If we really thought the gambit was under assault, we’d have marshaled our forces and stormed the cabin with every mage who takes our calls. But that also means riding out here in a caravan of VW buses that reek of skunk weed- and burning a lot of good will if it's a false alarm. So you coming out of the car?”
* She hesitates for a moment, then gets out. A “V” of Canadian geese flies overhead. “Too bad you suck at divination,” she says. “Maybe they’d be able to tell us if we’re about to die.”
* I start toward the house, hating every crunch of gravel under my feet because they make me louder, and make it harder to listen for something amiss. “I dated an augur once; she was flighty.”

Today we have author R. L. King visiting. Welcome!
What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* R. L. King is an award-winning author and game freelancer for Catalyst Game Labs, publisher of the popular roleplaying game Shadowrun. She has contributed fiction and game material to numerous sourcebooks, as well as one full-length adventure, "On the Run," included as part of the 2012 Origins-Award-winning "Runners' Toolkit."
* Her first novel in the Shadowrun universe, Borrowed Time, was published in May 2015.
* When not doing her best to make life difficult for her characters, King is a software technical writer for a large Silicon Valley database company. In her spare time (hah!) she enjoys hanging out with her very understanding spouse and her small herd of cats, watching way too much Doctor Who, and attending conventions when she can. She is an Active member of the Horror Writers' Association and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and a member of the International Association of Media Tie-in Writers.
Today R. L. King will be talking about how she handles balancing life and writing.
* Thank you very much for inviting me to your blog! You asked me to talk a bit about how I balance life and writing.
* I consider myself quite lucky that my situation makes it fairly easy for me to keep a balance between my writing and the rest of my life. For one thing, I have a good job as a technical writer that I like a lot, and best of all they let me telecommute! Since I live in the Silicon Valley and the roads are horrible during commute hours, that saves me about two hours a day where I’d otherwise be in the car.
* When I’m working on a project, I tend to write whenever I can: lunch hours, after work, evenings, weekends—and that’s the other area where I’m lucky. I have a very supportive spouse who loves the fact that I write and who’s proud of my accomplishments, so he’s (mostly!) patient with the fact that I can sometimes let other things slide when I’m in the middle of something. There are lots of reasons why he ends up in the dedications of all my novels, and putting up with my cluttered ways is by no means the least of them!
* We don’t have kids, which also makes things easier—I have a lot of respect for parents who manage to fit writing in around the edges of caring for kids, because I can see by watching them just how much work it is. That’s dedication! I don’t think I could manage that. My “kids” are a small herd of feline assistants, who most of the time either don’t bother me when I’m writing or sometimes even hang out with me (my tabby boy is my “mews”—he’ll sit on my desk and put his paws on my shoulders and go to sleep like that, which is nice.)
* I sometimes wonder if I’d be able to keep up the output rate I do if I had to deal with more obstacles in my life, honestly. I know I would still write—I can’t not write—but probably not as much as I do now. I’m in awe of other authors who manage to write as much as they do while juggling far more real-world responsibilities.
* Thank you again for the invitation!

* Dr. Alastair Stone, Occult Studies professor, powerful mage, and snarky British expat now based in Palo Alto, California, does his best to keep his academic and social lives separate from his increasingly frequent brushes with various malevolent forces from the supernatural side of the street. A little horror, a little humor, but mostly straight-up urban fantasy.
* Stone and a Hard Place
* Dr. Alastair Stone, Occult Studies professor and powerful mage, has his hands full trying to keep the two sides of his life separate as he trains a new apprentice, deals with a malevolent entity trapped in the basement of a wealthy old woman's massive home, and battles dark mages intent on enslaving it for their own ends.
* Debut novel of the Alastair Stone Chronicles.
* The Forgotten
* Dr. Alastair Stone is back, this time teaming up with Jason Thayer, a young man hunting for his missing sister. Embroiled in a web of odd homeless people, a growing conspiracy, and deadly danger, they soon realize that even if they find Jason's sister, they might not be able to help her.
* What do you do when you discover an extradimensional plot that threatens the safety of the entire world, but you can't tell anyone about it because literally anyone on Earth could be part of it?
* Book Two of the Alastair Stone Chronicles.

THE FORGOTTEN
* Jason let out a loud sigh, his natural tendency to want to move nearly overwhelming now. “How do we know if it doesn’t work? Do we have to stand in here forever?”
* Stone was about to answer when he stiffened, startled. “It’s back,” he said, pointing at the mirror.
* Jason spun around. Sure enough, the reddish figure had reappeared behind them in the mirror, looking as angry as ever. It said something to Stone in its bones-and-parchment voice, punctuated by many growls and other sounds of displeasure. The mage nodded. “She’s there now, then?” he asked.
* The figure snarled and glared at Stone. It appeared to be contemplating another lunge out into the real world, but eyed the mage warily and decided against it. Instead, it spat at him. The spittle flew out, contacted its own side of the mirror, and ran down toward the table with a sizzle. Then it reached out with a ropy, muscular arm and attempted to sweep all the objects off the table on its side of the mirror. The candles, knife, and chalice went, careening silently over the edge and out of sight. The book remained, and the creature screamed in agony as its arm contacted it.
* “It’s fighting me—” Stone said under his breath. “I’m going to release it now.” He reached up with both hands and put them on the mirror again. Loudly and clearly, he uttered a long sentence in the strange Latin-like language, then pulled his hands back abruptly and clapped them together in a sudden, sharp sound that made Jason jump. He stumbled, reeling back, realizing with horror even as he did so that he had no way of stopping himself. He was going to fall over backwards, taking out a good chunk of the circle when he landed.
* As he went over, he got a last look at the creature’s face. Instead of looking angry, it looked suddenly surprised and triumphant. That lasted about two seconds. It flung itself forward again, clawed hands eagerly reaching in front of it, reaching for Stone, for Jason—

But when the good guys seem to be working for the mad man responsible for blowing the world into chaos and her family is suddenly the bad, she is forced to choose between what she is taught to do and what she thinks is right.
* Captain David Trinidad is the best soldier the New Republic of Texas can find to pull off a secret mission that will decide the fate of the small country. He’s been raised in his military family to do anything to help his homeland. But when he discovers he is the only chance at saving someone he loves, he has to choose between the only two things in his life that he's never doubted.
* Meagan Trinidad is the best assassin the United Countries of America has for hire. She has walked the tightrope between making her father proud and protecting those she cares about for a while. But when her work threatens to destroy her friends, she must choose between the familial loyalty that has guided her whole life and the promise of being loved for who she is and not what she does.
~ Excerpt ~
* “I told you I was working.” Lauren tried not to snap. Zachary obviously wanted to forget their earlier fight about whether or not it was too dangerous for her to protect the new prime minister. But Zachary didn’t give up that easily. “I was doing my job.”
* “I thought you only had to stay through the prime minister’s speech.”
* “We both know you’re not going to college.” Jacob moved his mouth closer to her ear. “Why are you going to New Haven? To kill my sister?”
* “What?” Meagan jerked back to see his face, but he held her too tightly.
* “I know what you are, darling.” His voice was so quiet she barely could hear him. “An assassin.”
* “That’s not true!” She swallowed, her head spinning. How had he figured it out? Her father was going to be pissed. “I would never hurt Kayla.”
* “That may be true, but you have been hunting my brother for years.” Jacob’s hands crept up her body. They stopped on either side of her throat. He pressed harder against her. “Why do you think I’ve been keeping you so close?”
* Meagan didn’t say anything. Sliding a hand behind her back, she glared at him. She went for the knife hidden in her waistband.
* “I don’t think so, darling.” He grabbed her wrist and twisted it along with the other one above her head, pinning them against the door. She refused to cry out in pain. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. “I kept you so close I know all of your little tricks. Didn’t you wonder why I cared? You should know by now that I don’t fuck the same girl more than once. I was keeping an eye on you instead of ending you.”
* She brought up her knee in a swift movement and hit him in the crotch. He grunted and doubled over in pain. She punched him in the face and pushed him off her. Spinning, she kicked him in the head and knocked him to the floor. She drove her boot into his stomach for good measure.
* “Don’t ever threaten me, Jacob Godard,” she whispered in his ear, kneeling over him. “Next time I’ll slit your arrogant throat.”

Holly Spencer is a 22-year-old IT major who’s ready to graduate and find her place in the world. What she really wants is a good job and a condo with a view.
But when she’s rescued twice in one day by a mysterious man who claims to be a fae warrior, she’s plunged into a world she grew up believing existed only in fairy tales, and forced to run for her life from warring factions who all want her dead.
Shadow’s on a routine mission when he runs headlong into Holly--the soul mate he’d given up on ever finding. Even though she refuses to believe they’re meant for each other, he fights to protect her from the very thing that brought them together, even when it means making a dangerous deal with Fate to save her life.
Holly struggles with being told who she’s supposed to love. Shouldn’t it be her choice? But as little by little Shadow kindles her passions and wins her trust, Holly realizes that a life with Shadow may very well be just where she belongs.
~*~ Excerpt ~*~
She still had to face the things that caused her fear, and as much as Shadow made her feel safe, she couldn’t quite let go of the responsibility of taking care of herself. She couldn’t in good conscience give him any hope when she had no idea what she faced in the next few days. That kind of trust required more than she was ready to give just yet. Still, resisting the temptation to give in to their attraction was becoming more and more difficult.
“I know you’ll do everything you can to protect my life, and if I survive this mission, we can talk about my heart,” she said, resting her head on his chest.
“You’ll survive,” he said. “I’ve already saved you twice. I’ll do it as many times as I need to.”
“As I recall, the last time it was a team effort,” Holly teased. “If I hadn’t shifted form, you wouldn’t have been able to carry me away.”
She heard his laugh rumble in his chest. “Very true. That just proves what a good team we are.” He pushed her back just a little to look her in the eyes, “And as I recall,” he said, a wicked grin spreading slowly across his lips, “the last time I saved you, you wore nothing but a smile. Is that going to be a habit?”
“You wish. What does that have to do with anything anyway?”
Still holding her close, he traced the line of her dress, down one shoulder, across the valley between her breasts, and back up again, making her shiver.
“Nothing. I was just thinking how impressive it was.”

Today we have author Kiru Taye visiting. Welcome!
What would you like to tell readers about yourself?
* Kiru Taye is the award-winning and best-selling author of His Treasure.
* As a young adult, she read a lot of books. Mostly, she loved the romantic stories for the fantasy of being swept away by dashing heroes to exotic locations. Though her reading tastes have matured since then, she still loves reading romance novels.
* Having always dreamt of writing novels, she finally 'bit the bullet' in 2010 and wrote her first contemporary romance novel which she submitted the first chapter as an entry to New Voices writing contest in September 2010. It was shortlisted for ‘call-back’.
* She writes historical, contemporary and paranormal romance. Her stories are sensual and steamy, her characters passionate and sassy and her settings, atmospheric and exotic.
* When she’s not writing, she’s reading, hanging out with family or traveling. Born in Nigerian, she currently lives in the UK with her husband and two children.
(Information extracted from her blog.)
What are you going to tell us about today?
* My Black Warriors series prequel Black Soul. It's an urban fantasy, paranormal romance. I'm revealing the cover today, which was created by: Love Bites and Silk
Here's the cover and a look into the story:
~ Blurb ~
He will damn his soul to set hers free.
When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well deserved break and meets up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for her. M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. Tara is his assignment. As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing that releases her powers – unbinding her heart.
~ Excerpt ~
Prologue
* M'na lounged in the worn foam armchair, thighs apart, legs stretched out, right hand clutching a short tumbler of whisky. Lord of the Ring posters covered up blue paint peeling off the brick walls.
* Ironic really, the first time he was going to have sex in a millennium and he'd chosen a demon with a love for fantasy movies, who lived in a part of the city that could've been Mordor.
* Desperation flowed in his veins, making him feverish. Sweat dripped down his face. His t-shirt clung to his back, a second skin. He tightened his grip on the glass to stop his hand from shaking and lifted it to his lips.
* The strong liquor burned his throat as he tossed the whole shot down. Thumped the glass back onto the small table and refilled it from the bottle.
* One of the advantages, or disadvantages depending on how one chose to look at it, of being a super, alcohol had no effect in normal quantities.
* But he liked the sting of whisky at the back of his throat and in his chest. It made him feel alive. Something he hadn't felt in a very long time.
* Shame it couldn't numb the pain searing his soul, his constant companion.

Welcome to the middle of the week!
Mid Week Tease is an event, sponsored by the wonderful Ms. Sandra Bunino, where authors are spotlighting a few lines or a paragraph or two from their stories. Readers, you get to sample some delicious snippets and be teased, titillated and tantalized into the weekend!
My contribution to MWT this week is from one of the books in my erotic urban fantasy series, C.O.V.E.N.. It's called Open World. This book follows the world I created in AFK, my story in the Evernight Publishing anthology, Keyboards & Kink. Enjoy!
* It surprised him how those he knew became their characters so easily and acted as if the game world was the real world. Their mission for the LAN party was to test out the game in role playing mode. How the whole thing turned into an open world where players could roam freely through the virtual world and were given so much freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives was beyond him. But then again… It also seemed like someone had tweaked the game to play in sandbox mode. A player with enough know-how to give themselves tools to modify the world themselves and direct how the game is played.
* But who?
* “James? Who in here has the knowledge to change the game’s code from here?”
* “The few who do wouldn’t jeopardize their jobs by messing with it now. Why?”
* “Aside from the hocus-pocus stuff with us literally getting sucked into the game, don’t you find it strange how real everything was? How easy it was to manipulate and be manipulated in there? As for why, I was hoping you might have a guess.”
* “Now that you mention it, yes, I noticed the play.” James shook his head. “But I have no clue why. And the people who I’d call to ask are in this room and locked into the C.O.V.E.N. world.”
Look for buy links to this C.O.V.E.N. story here: Casey Moss Website.

* Today I'm here to share my story Open World which is now available at Evernight Publishing. The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: Evernight Publishing & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK. In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real. Now, in Open World, the employees have joined together for a LAN party to test the game.
How'd you/your muse come up with this story?
* Like I mentioned above, the world of C.O.V.E.N. was introduced in an anthology. The call for that anth was about on-line relationships and since I'd been into MMORPGs I went that route when creating the story - what if gamers got sucked into a game and hooked up? Open World consists of two novellas that had been previously published, and they'd been repurposed to fit this theme. I'm so excited they found new life and a new home with Evernight Publishing!
Who's your favorite character in the book & why?
* There are multiple characters in the story. The bad guy Cor, the parents, the two couples Den & Hope and Faith & Tavis. There's also the cousin, Cassandra. Beth from the first story along with Rick make an appearance, along with some other new characters one of which is JT. JT will be one of the main characters in the next book. Love my JT. But when it comes to Open World, my favorite character is Cassandra. She, too, will be a featured character in the book that comes after JT's story.
What's your favorite line in the story?
* There are a lot of great lines in the book & I have several favorites. Here's one of them:
* “Hey, if you want to be bit by the CWU that’s coming up on you, feel free to continue standing there with your thumb up your ass.”
A look into the story
~ Blurb ~
* The world has broken out in wars. Las Vegas has been ravaged by chemical warfare and is now home to several clans and creatures.
* Welcome to I-D-8 Entertainment’s newest game: Clans of Vegas—Endless Night.
* Friends and family have gathered for a crunch time playtest of C.O.V.E.N.. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, everyone’s sucked into the game for real. In the MMORPG, Hope Collins is kidnapped by Buzz and forced to submit to his whims. Her boyfriend, Alden, has to delay his quest of defeating a clan’s prince to save her, but time and circumstance don’t seem to be on his side. Faith Collins is bombarded by strange dreams brought on by Buzz. Her boyfriend, Tavis, learns to dream walk, but can he help break the spell she’s under and save her before she’s lost to him?
* C.O.V.E.N. is more than just a game. It’s a whole other world.
~ Excerpt ~
* Her quiet statements almost rattled him. “Not again what?” he inquired with an edge of caution.
* She tried to move a couple strands of hair that had escaped her ponytail to behind her ear. “Might be something. Might be nothing. Don’t mind me. With all the computers, crystals, wires and such around me I get antsy when it comes to power surges and storms.” Beth glanced at the doorway, the monitor, the entrance again. She rubbed the back of her neck and repeated the actions of her darting gaze.
* “Seems like you’re more than just being antsy about a rain storm or Nevada Energy doing a rolling black out. What’s troubling you?”
* Beth drew in a long breath and then let it out in puff. “Well, it’s a bit of a story, but another player and I had some very unusual issues during a smaller test run when there was a storm going on. Very unsettling stuff.”
* Could Beth have been one of the testers online when I’d been on, too, during that storm? Den couldn’t recall anything out of the ordinary happening. Just the normal quirks a game in development had. But then again… Could what happened that night be part of what happened to me today? What I need to figure out? “Who knows about those issues you had?”
* “No one does.” She shifted her stance, looked toward the door again. “Except for a couple of programmers who needed to know. I just made sure to make it like there were lots of bugs that had to be fixed. Hopefully they have been. Maybe I’ll tell you about it all after the party gets started.”
* “That’d be great.” Every piece of information counted if he were to make headway with his issue.

* The rich, deep timbre of his voice reverberated through her core, reminding her of the passion she’d shared with her new dream man. She took a deep, steadying breath. “It’s like a fog edging your body. Not a thick fog because I can still make out some detail behind you, but enough of a haze to be defining. It’s a gorgeous turquoise. It ebbs and flows with your breaths.”
* “Well, my dear, you’re glowing, too. Your hue is a beautiful amber, like that of your energy globes.” He took her hand in his.
* “This is too weird,” she commented as the colors swirled and blended together. “It’s like what happened in my dream. Maybe I need some more sleep.”
* “No, Faith, you don’t need more sleep. You need to find your eyes, look with your soul, then you’ll see the truth and the path which is already before you.” He stepped in toward her and pushed a lock of hair behind her ear. “Your salvation from Mabuz’s world and the ties that bind you there lie in choosing the right course of action, deciding between good and evil.”

* If looks could kill.
* And just like the woman in her dream upon seeing the crazed hatred in Pearl’s heated gaze, Calissa finally understood beyond a doubt what people meant by that phrase.
* She gazed at the clock and sighed. If she dreamt of anyone, why did she have to see those two women the most when Jonah was part of the cast, too? This particular recurring dream always started with him—beautiful Jonah with eyes the color of a storm-tossed ocean. It was a great beginning, too. He had taken her hand, captured her heart, made her feel rare and treasured. On a secluded patio of a penthouse room overlooking the bright and colorful Las Vegas strip, they had claimed each other, loved each other, stolen each other’s souls. But to her sorrow, like all good dreams that seem to be cut short too soon, he was never in the picture long.

My contribution to MWT this week is from one of the next books I'm working on in my erotic urban fantasy series, C.O.V.E.N.. It's called C.O.V.E.N.: Genesis. This book is the prelude to the world I created in AFK , my story in the Evernight Publishing anthology, Keyboards & Kink and the with the LAN party in books 1 & 2 Open World & Open World--Continuum. It shows how the MMORPG came to be. Enjoy!
* Truth be told, her mother did do her best to help and Doctor Wilcox was a great psychologist, but the two of them were too mystical for her scientific brain.
* She suffered from the effects of the dreams, losing sleep nights at a time and dealing with headaches. Those side effects terrified her. Calissa also didn’t want to hear that the dreams were spiritual messages from God, predictions of the future or communications from the past. Her father would have said her recurring dreams and subsequent mental state were all physiological responses to external stresses. She’d have been more apt to agree with him than anyone. No matter what though, they sapped any hope she had of a normal life.
* “Oh, Dad, why did you have to leave,” Calissa whispered, the painful wound of what she called his ‘desertion’ reopening, the hurt still raw. “First mom. Now the business. You could have sent Alec to deal with the financial stuff.”

* As for remembering, she hoped her mom wouldn’t recall her plans to get all the employees together. Who did her Mom think she was anyway? The CEO?
* As if. She snorted. Her dad had left Alec Sterling in charge of I-D-8 Entertainment Corporation, her and her father’s new company that developed, published and distributed interactive educational software while he traveled the country to meet with financial backers. Their goal was to expand from the small scholastic market into the world-wide gaming market.
* Her hand twitched. The crumpled note pinched the soft flesh of her palm. No use fretting over the situation. If she didn’t bring up the subject, maybe her mom wouldn’t either and the meeting idea would be dropped. She had bigger issues to deal with, like how one of her nightmares once again woke her in the early dawn. For weeks now the dreadful, twisted dreams paraded on her mind’s screen in the wee hours of the morning. Upon their debuts, the visions, as they came to be called by shrink Karen, surfaced only once or twice a month. Now, they occurred nightly.
* She closed her eyes. A picture of a star-filled night sky formed on the backs of her eyelids. Images from the pre-dawn nightmare immediately followed.

* Something was different.
* He felt like he’d been walking forever through the arid landscape. Ultra-fine, sandy particles covered his black duster coat. Dried on dirt layered his black military boots, and he was glad he couldn’t see them in the dark. He hated filthy boots.
* Regardless of the muck of travel clinging to him, he continued on, and with each step, the phrase repeated.
* Something was different.
* Though they’d all found themselves on a role playing board where they all had control of situations, there was still a base theme the improvisation worked around. It almost felt like that theme had been tampered with.

* Now the last Collins woman remaining to be tapped was that smart mouth bitch, Cassandra, most definitely the strongest, but the least desirable. She was too intelligent, and he was pretty damn sure she had already enlightened, which would make his task of converting her to his ways all the more tough. The one plus was—she didn’t have a protective boyfriend sitting in her corner.
* A thunderous boom, seeming to be right on top of the building, jerked his attention from the screen. The crystals began to glow and pulse again. Around him the atmosphere heightened with a hair raising electrical charge. Laser beams shot out of the pyramids and created connecting lines between them.
* “The incorporation is starting again. Perfect.” Cor clapped his hands and rubbed them together fervently. “I will succeed in claiming what I want and ruling the universe,” he chanted believing in each and every word he’d said.
* Cassandra would submit to him, willingly or not.

* Corbet Jenkins jolted awake, almost knocking himself out of the chair. He grasped onto the edge of the table to steady himself, blinking several times to gain his bearings. His character on the monitor stood motionless in a regeneration room in his clan’s gathering center. He pounded on the table with his fists and jumped up. The chair tipped and clattered on the floor.
* Everyone else who had gathered for the crunch time testing of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game C.O.V.E.N. remained in their suspended animation states. At least that’s what he called the sleep-like condition they’d all found themselves in. They looked like the characters in that cartoon movie his mother had taken him to see when he was a kid. The one where a princess fell asleep for a long time and so did everyone else. Happy they were all down for the count and not caring why he was the only one up and about, Cor pulled out a small notepad from his pants’ pocket, grabbed a pen from the table and jotted down notes. He’d call in his findings, but he didn’t want to chance someone else popping out of the game and learning what he was up to.
* Sociological ramifications unestablished at this time.
* Extraordinary occurrence—crystal pyramids? Rain storm? Electrical?—caused catatonic event for all players and real incorporation into game. Warrants further study.
* Deferred to secondary mission—manipulation of other characters. Brief success. Due to real incorporation? In spite of? Warrants further attempts.
* If incorporation continues, rethink parameters of experiment. Possible new applications: psychic powers, telepathy, teleportation, auric field manipulation, etc? Assimilate people into game? Large scale functions in real world?

My contribution to MWT this week is from an erotic urban fantasy story I've written and submitted (still waiting to hear back on it - inbox is tired of me stalking it...) called Open World - a C.O.V.E.N. story. This book continues with the world I created in AFK, my story in the Evernight Publishing anthology, Keyboards & Kink. Enjoy!
* Cassandra clicked her fingers in front of Hope’s face. “Hope?”
* Snapped out of her trance, Hope threw her arms around her cousin. “Oh my God, I’m so happy to see you. Please tell me you know what’s going on. Where’s Faith? Our boyfriends?”
* Cassandra peeled Hope off of her and cast her gaze at the ground. “I wish I could explain it all. I woke up in my secret location, dressed in the outfit I use for ceremonies, and a note from Morrigan requesting I meet her when I have a chance had been in my messages.”
* “So you don’t know where anyone is?”
* “Nope.” Cassandra shrugged. “Sorry.”
* In a strange world. Family’s missing. Den is nowhere to be seen. Thank God Cass is here. I hate being alone. Hope’s blood ran cold through her veins. She rocked slightly, twisted her hands together as she dealt with the news.
